Dear Hoj,

I lay awake late last night, anticipating your homecomeing and then meditating about the difficult experience that being back in the land of the fat and complacently secure (yes, even in the middle of a global recession) will be. I wrote in my journal before coming home from Germany of the Balkanization of my heart, part of which was longing for home at Wildflecken, and part of which was sobbing at the thought of leaving. I'm sure that you will be frustrated and depressed at America's (and most likely even the fam's) inappropriately small level of interest or degree of appetite in/for your Malawian experience and the things that you now know that we can't directly. I love you and feel badly already, but have no regrets for your experience there. I hope that you'll let Matilda and Mohamed know that America (the world even) has changed a little, even before you come back, because of this small change in the universe, that of Smiths living in Lilongwe.

I love you guys.
